In family law, mediation is a process where a neutral third party helps two or more parties to negotiate a solution to their dispute.
Mediation is often used in family law disputes, because it can be cheaper and faster than going to court. It also allows the parties to maintain control over the outcome of their dispute.
The mediator is not a judge, and will not make any decisions for the parties. Instead, the mediator will help the parties to communicate with each other, and to negotiate a solution that works for them.
If mediation is successful, the agreement reached by the parties can be made into a court order. If mediation is not successful, the parties can still go to court to resolve their dispute.
Mediation is a voluntary process, and either party can stop the mediation at any time. The mediator cannot force the parties to reach an agreement.
